Sensor calibration

Étalonnage des capteurs

Sensor calibration is the process of relating sensor outputs to known reference conditions and adjusting measurement settings where appropriate. Curb monitoring uses calibration to improve interpretation of presence, position, or activity, while ongoing validation is needed because installation changes, environmental conditions, and equipment aging can alter performance.

Understanding the term

Calibration data should represent the deployed location and intended users. A successful laboratory test does not establish accuracy under local weather, traffic, or parking arrangements.

Validate the measurement against an independent reference under representative conditions. Record uncertainty, coverage, missing intervals, and the difference between a raw observation and an inferred activity. Technical outputs should be used only for purposes they can support reliably. Assign responsibility for calibration, corrections, access, and retention, and assess privacy across the complete data flow. An operational dashboard can conceal measurement errors if it displays precise values without their method or limitations.
