Ground truth
Données de référence terrain
Ground truth is an independently established reference used to assess the accuracy of a measurement or classification. In curb studies it can come from carefully reviewed observations, but its reliability depends on the reference method, sampling, timestamp alignment, and consistent definitions rather than the label alone.
Understanding the term
Reference observations can contain human errors. Document disagreements and review procedures rather than treating a single manual survey as a perfect representation of every event.
Validate the measurement against an independent reference under representative conditions. Record uncertainty, coverage, missing intervals, and the difference between a raw observation and an inferred activity. Technical outputs should be used only for purposes they can support reliably. Assign responsibility for calibration, corrections, access, and retention, and assess privacy across the complete data flow. An operational dashboard can conceal measurement errors if it displays precise values without their method or limitations.
