False positive detection
Détection faussement positive
False positive detection is a detection that reports an event or condition when that condition is absent according to the chosen reference. For curb occupancy, it may falsely mark an empty area as occupied, reducing apparent availability and potentially misleading operational decisions if errors are not measured and explained.
Understanding the term
Define the positive class before reporting an error rate. A positive parking-violation alert and a positive vehicle-presence detection are different conditions with different consequences.
Validate the measurement against an independent reference under representative conditions. Record uncertainty, coverage, missing intervals, and the difference between a raw observation and an inferred activity. Technical outputs should be used only for purposes they can support reliably. Assign responsibility for calibration, corrections, access, and retention, and assess privacy across the complete data flow. An operational dashboard can conceal measurement errors if it displays precise values without their method or limitations.
