False negative detection
Détection faussement négative
False negative detection is a missed event or condition that is present according to the chosen reference. In curb monitoring, an occupied space reported as empty can create unreliable availability information, while the consequences depend on how the output is used and whether other checks identify the missed vehicle.
Understanding the term
Missed detections can bias dwell estimates when a single stay is split into several short sessions. Evaluate event continuity as well as snapshots of occupied or empty space.
Validate the measurement against an independent reference under representative conditions. Record uncertainty, coverage, missing intervals, and the difference between a raw observation and an inferred activity. Technical outputs should be used only for purposes they can support reliably. Assign responsibility for calibration, corrections, access, and retention, and assess privacy across the complete data flow. An operational dashboard can conceal measurement errors if it displays precise values without their method or limitations.
