Wayfinding

Jalonnement et repérage

Wayfinding is the information and environmental cues that help people understand their location and reach a destination. At the curb, wayfinding can connect a designated loading point, accessible route, transit stop, or parking area to an entrance, with consistent names and legible instructions across physical and digital media.

Understanding the term

A map pin may identify a building while leaving its accessible entrance unclear. Passenger instructions should identify the actual boarding or arrival location and the route beyond it.

Assess the entire journey rather than a single compliant feature. A person must be able to approach, transfer, orient themselves, and continue to the destination under actual operating conditions. Engage people with varied access needs and document the applicable local requirements. Guidance from another jurisdiction can inform design thinking, but it does not replace the standards adopted by the responsible authority or the need to maintain access during works and daily operations.
