Inclusive consultation

Concertation inclusive

Inclusive consultation is a participation process designed to include people whose street-access needs may be missed by conventional meetings or surveys. It uses suitable formats, languages, locations, and support to gather evidence about curb decisions, while documenting whose experiences are represented and whose remain insufficiently understood.

Understanding the term

Consultation should complement technical observation, not substitute for accessibility duties. Record how feedback changed an allocation and explain unresolved tradeoffs in a form participants can understand.

Assess the entire journey rather than a single compliant feature. A person must be able to approach, transfer, orient themselves, and continue to the destination under actual operating conditions. Engage people with varied access needs and document the applicable local requirements. Guidance from another jurisdiction can inform design thinking, but it does not replace the standards adopted by the responsible authority or the need to maintain access during works and daily operations.
