Accessible EV charging is electric-vehicle charging designed and operated so that people with disabilities can reach, connect, pay for, and use the service. At the curb, accessibility includes the parking arrangement, transfer space, cable handling, controls, payment interface, and continuous pedestrian route around the equipment.
Understanding the term
An accessible parking bay does not by itself make a charger usable. Check connector reach and operating force as well as the space surrounding the vehicle.
Assess the entire journey rather than a single compliant feature. A person must be able to approach, transfer, orient themselves, and continue to the destination under actual operating conditions. Engage people with varied access needs and document the applicable local requirements. Guidance from another jurisdiction can inform design thinking, but it does not replace the standards adopted by the responsible authority or the need to maintain access during works and daily operations.
