Data governance

Gouvernance des données

Data governance is the allocation of responsibilities and rules for creating, maintaining, using, and sharing data. In curb programs, governance connects legal records, operational observations, privacy controls, and public information, identifying who approves changes, resolves conflicts, grants access, and remains accountable when data affects real street access.

Understanding the term

A governance plan should address supplier changes and contract termination. Authorities need continuing access to their records, documented formats, and an orderly way to correct or transfer operational data.

An implementation should document its version, identifiers, time conventions, geographic accuracy, and supported fields. Test representative exchanges between the actual participating systems, including exceptions and updates. Assign responsibility for correcting discrepancies between published information, legal records, and the street. Collect only information needed for a defined purpose and apply suitable access and retention controls. A successful technical exchange does not by itself prove that the data is current, legally authoritative, or suitable for enforcement.
