Curb management

Curb management

Gestion du curb

Curb management is the coordinated allocation and operation of street-edge space for people, goods, vehicles, and public activities. It connects regulations, physical design, pricing, and monitoring so that competing uses can be assessed against explicit public objectives rather than historical parking arrangements.

Understanding the term

An allocation plan should identify who may use each segment, when, and for how long. Delivery access, passenger assistance, bus operations, and pedestrian movement require different operating conditions; a single occupancy measure cannot represent all these needs.

Planning begins with a location-specific statement of the problem and the public function that needs protection. Field observations should be compared with the applicable legal record, including exceptions and temporary changes. Document the users affected, the period examined, and the alternatives available nearby. An evaluation should test access, safety, and operational reliability together, because moving an activity elsewhere can transfer a conflict rather than resolve it.
