Curb management

Curb inventory

Inventaire du curb

Curb inventory is a structured record of street-edge assets, geometry, signs, and permitted uses. It establishes where curb space exists and what rules apply, providing a reference for planning, public information, maintenance, and later measurements of how people and vehicles actually use that space.

Understanding the term

Inventory records need stable identifiers, survey dates, and links to legal instruments. Recording a sign without its direction, exceptions, or effective hours can produce an apparently complete map that gives incorrect access instructions.

Planning begins with a location-specific statement of the problem and the public function that needs protection. Field observations should be compared with the applicable legal record, including exceptions and temporary changes. Document the users affected, the period examined, and the alternatives available nearby. An evaluation should test access, safety, and operational reliability together, because moving an activity elsewhere can transfer a conflict rather than resolve it.
