Curb management
Curb allocation
Affectation du curb
Curb allocation is the assignment of street-edge space to particular activities, users, or time periods. It translates transport and public-space priorities into designated areas for functions such as loading, parking, transit, cycling, or public seating, with explicit decisions about which activities receive access.
Understanding the term
Allocation can be permanent, seasonal, or time-dependent. Decisions should consider people served, access requirements, and nearby alternatives rather than treating every existing parking space as an entitlement or every loading request as equally urgent.
Planning begins with a location-specific statement of the problem and the public function that needs protection. Field observations should be compared with the applicable legal record, including exceptions and temporary changes. Document the users affected, the period examined, and the alternatives available nearby. An evaluation should test access, safety, and operational reliability together, because moving an activity elsewhere can transfer a conflict rather than resolve it.
