Curbside electrification

AC charging

Recharge en courant alternatif

AC charging is electric-vehicle charging in which alternating current is supplied to the vehicle and converted by its onboard equipment. Charging power depends on both the installation and vehicle capability, so a curbside station’s advertised capacity does not by itself determine the energy delivered during a particular parking session.

Understanding the term

Longer parking stays can suit lower-power charging where access remains fair. Site planning should match expected dwell patterns and local electrical capacity rather than maximize nominal power alone.

Planning should connect electrical service requirements with the use of public space. Verify equipment compatibility, utility capacity, accessible operation, pedestrian clearance, payment information, and maintenance responsibilities before selecting a final layout. Distinguish equipment status from legal parking availability and from successful charging experienced by users. Review performance under realistic simultaneous demand and vehicle positions, and explain any limitations so that published capacity is not mistaken for a guaranteed service at every moment.
