Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP)
Protocole ouvert des points de recharge (OCPP)
Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP) is an open communication protocol maintained by the Open Charge Alliance for exchanges between charging stations and charging-management systems. It supports defined operational functions, with interoperability depending on the implemented version, optional features, configuration, and testing rather than the presence of an OCPP label alone.
Understanding the term
OCPP concerns station-to-management communication. It should not be confused with the physical vehicle connector or with roaming arrangements between a charging operator and a driver’s service provider.
Planning should connect electrical service requirements with the use of public space. Verify equipment compatibility, utility capacity, accessible operation, pedestrian clearance, payment information, and maintenance responsibilities before selecting a final layout. Distinguish equipment status from legal parking availability and from successful charging experienced by users. Review performance under realistic simultaneous demand and vehicle positions, and explain any limitations so that published capacity is not mistaken for a guaranteed service at every moment.
