Measurement and evaluation

Vehicle arrival rate

Taux d’arrivée des véhicules

Vehicle arrival rate is the number of vehicles entering a defined area or requesting service per unit of time. Arrival rate helps describe demand pressure, but interpretation requires the observation boundary, time interval, vehicle eligibility, and whether repeat attempts or vehicles unable to stop are counted.

Understanding the term

Arrival clustering can matter more than the daily total. Simultaneous delivery rounds or event departures may create queues even when average capacity appears sufficient.

Every reported measure needs a geographic boundary, observation period, unit, and documented calculation method. State how missing data, temporary closures, and sessions crossing the observation boundary are treated. Use distributions or separate user categories where an average hides important differences. Compare consistent definitions across sites and periods, and distinguish an observed association from a demonstrated causal effect. The appropriate indicator follows the policy question rather than whichever field a monitoring system happens to provide.
