Congestion pricing
Tarification de congestion
Congestion pricing is the use of road-user charges to influence travel demand in congested locations or periods. It can change arrival patterns and access choices around curb areas, but differs from a parking charge because it generally concerns use of a road network, area, or crossing rather than vehicle storage.
Understanding the term
A congestion scheme may coexist with loading permits and parking fees. Explain each charge’s purpose and validity so users do not assume one payment covers every access condition.
The applicable rule is determined by the competent authority and its legal instruments. Check the geographic extent, effective period, eligible activities, exceptions, and procedures before applying a general term to a specific street. Align public information and field signs with the operative rule, and provide a practical route for questions or corrections. Monitoring should assess the intended access and safety outcomes, not merely the number of permissions issued or penalties recorded.
